Hello everyone! My name is Iris Wilson, and I thought it'd be quickest to introduce myself over these interesting journals. Wouldn't it be faster if we could use typewriters instead of pens, though? Has anyone tested that?

Anyway, I trust you're familiar with Mr Naruhodo? Or Miss Mikotoba and Inspector Lestrade? They are some of my dearest friends and family, so I wanted to thank you all for being here to support them! Oh, and Mr Asogi and Mr Reaper, too!

In addition, I understand that Herlock Sholmes was here prior to me? Honestly, he's normally so difficult to wake, too. But I also wanted to say that I hope you had a lovely time with him and that,

Isn't it though? I'm from a science-based place, so having "magic" which isn't easily explained by that is unusual to me.

Who's that? And why wouldn't you want them to know about this?

That's nice. Hurley's said that we're always observing and learning, though, so I don't see why you couldn't do a test or two on vacation.

You're not wrong, but I've been using my ice cream shop to experiment to scratch that itch.

It's an interesting world. It experienced an apocalypse and the fall of complete civilization but we've rebuilt it back up to a decent standard of living for the most part.

Really? It's not quite the same, but after war and plague, the people from my world spent hundreds of years in decline, but in the last few centuries we've been taking great strides forward. I think I can understand your world thinking about it like that. I'm very glad you've managed to survive!

It is. I enjoy cooking and preparing food because people enjoy eating it, and I can invent as many flavours as I like.

I'm glad to hear your world has been coming along. I don't think it's quantifiably possible to compare people's worlds in any event. They're all different.

That's something we have in common! People seem so much happier when there's food ready, don't you think? I really only experiment with herbal tea blends myself.

Ah, good point. I've never really had other ones to consider along with my own before now.

That they do. Food is a powerful motivator and incentive. A carrot, if you will. Everyone who knows me tends to get put to work at home so the least I can do is feed them.

True. This is my first time encountering other worlds, so to speak. I've met an alien entity, but I don't know much about where they came from. They didn't seem to know.

How true! I enjoy making it, but I'm not sure if I would have learnt so much already if Hurley were a better cook.

Oh, wow! I guess it might be hard to explain your own world when you've never had to think of it in comparison to another.

If there's something you're curious about making, I might be able to help. I know how to make a great manner of things.

The aliens were parasites, so they had conquered many planets already and didn't understand how they kept ruining them. Fascinating blind spot for an AI.

That's quite interesting. Parasites don't tend to be very clever, do they? What does "AI" stand for?

No, definitely not clever. They were fulfilling their function, but beyond that...well. I'm undecided. They're smarter than they seem I think, but a huge blind spot.

Ah, sorry. Artificial intelligence. It's like machines that can learn and evolve on their own.

[She nicknames everyone she's met. Literally.]

Basic survival is usually all a parasite can do, so I guess they must have some intelligence if there was anything more to them.

Really? That's unbelievable! It sounds simpler to just build them with everything they already need to know.

Ah, it can be, but that limits the use of the machine. One that learns on its own will continue to evolve just like people would. That's always been the science fiction dream, and question.

Does it count as creating sentient life? Is that ethical? Do they become mere objects or their own entities?

Those are good questions. That's the sort of thing most people wouldn't do if only to avoid the hassle those would cause. There are novels where causing questions like that don't go well for the scientists.

It would be interesting to see what one could do, though! I wonder what Hurley would teach it?

Correct, it often does not end well for the scientists.

One of the parasites stayed and works with me. He knows a lot more than he lets on. I'm sure of it.
